Chevrolet brings back the beloved Bolt EV for the 2027 model year, transitioning the affordable hatchback to a more modern electrical architecture. While it retains the compact footprint and practical shape that made the original a hit, the new generation benefits from General Motors updated software and battery advancements. The most significant change is the adoption of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry, which helps keep the starting price exceptionally low while offering excellent longevity and the ability to routinely charge to 100 percent without accelerated degradation.

Under the skin, the 2027 Bolt EV is expected to feature a single-motor, front-wheel-drive powertrain delivering around 200 horsepower, mirroring the peppy acceleration of its predecessor. The switch to a native North American Charging Standard (NACS) port means owners will have seamless access to the Tesla Supercharger network without needing an adapter. DC fast charging speeds are also anticipated to see a notable bump over the previous generations 55 kW limit, making regional road trips much more viable.

Inside, the cabin receives a complete overhaul, borrowing design cues and technology from the larger Equinox EV and Blazer EV. A large central touchscreen powered by Google Built-In handles navigation and media, while physical controls are retained for essential climate functions. With seating for five and a versatile cargo area with fold-flat rear seats, the next-generation Bolt EV continues to prioritize practical, no-nonsense utility for urban and suburban commuters.
