Kona Electric

By Doug Clayton, EVGrok Staff Writer

The 2026 Hyundai Kona Electric continues the second-generation design introduced in 2024, featuring a stretched wheelbase and a distinctive Seamless Horizon LED light bar. Built on an EV-first platform, it maximizes interior volume and cargo capacity compared to its predecessor, offering a spacious cabin within a subcompact footprint. The front-wheel-drive architecture is powered by a choice of two battery packs, allowing buyers to balance budget and range requirements.

Equipped with a 64.8 kWh battery in its higher trims, the Kona Electric delivers an EPA-estimated 261 miles of range and produces 201 horsepower. A smaller 48.6 kWh battery is available in the base SE trim, providing 200 miles of range and 133 horsepower. Both configurations generate 255 Nm of torque, ensuring responsive urban acceleration. The vehicle supports 400V fast charging, capable of replenishing the battery from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 43 minutes.

Inside, the Kona Electric boasts a modern, dual-display dashboard featuring two 12.3-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. Hyundai has retained physical buttons for critical climate and audio controls, enhancing ergonomic usability. Advanced driver-assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring, come standard, making it a highly competitive and practical daily driver.
