The 2026 Rivian R1S represents the second generation of the brand's flagship electric SUV, bringing significant under-the-skin improvements while maintaining its iconic boxy silhouette. Built on a heavily revised electrical architecture, the new R1S reduces wiring complexity and weight, paving the way for enhanced computing power and the new Autonomy Compute platform. Buyers can choose from Dual-Motor, Tri-Motor, and Quad-Motor configurations, with the top-tier Quad-Motor delivering a staggering 1,025 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of under 2.6 seconds.

Rivian has also revamped the battery options, introducing a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) Standard pack alongside the re-engineered Large and Max packs, which utilize new cylindrical cells and a die-cast enclosure. The Max pack paired with the Dual-Motor setup achieves an impressive EPA-estimated range of up to 410 miles. A redesigned air suspension system with new dampers significantly improves ride quality, addressing previous criticisms of the SUV's on-road compliance while retaining its formidable 14.9 inches of maximum ground clearance for off-roading.

Inside, the R1S continues to offer a premium, minimalist cabin with seating for up to seven passengers. The infotainment system benefits from a new user interface with crisp graphics powered by Unreal Engine, though it still omits Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additional updates include an electronically tinted panoramic glass roof, upgraded interior materials, and enhanced thermal management, solidifying the R1S as one of the most capable and well-rounded electric SUVs on the market.
